The Letter
It was strange. This was the first letter he had ever gotten in his life and it was from that school... He knew that wax crest by sight. Taran had always remembered it, even though the first time he saw it was 7 years ago. It had burned into his mind when he figured out that his cousin Milo was leaving him for that school.
After that day…everything in Taran’s life went downhill. His parents didn’t understand why such a thing would depress a four year old. Little did they know that their only child possessed magic. Only his cousin Milo knew about his powers which were one of the reasons why they were close. Plus they were both outsiders to their families, preferably the black sheep. But once that letter appeared…their bond had slowly broke down as the years went by.
Perhaps Taran’s letter was the answer to rekindle that bond. He wrinkled his nose down at the envelope as he sat up straighter on the tree branch and leaned his back against the sturdy tree. The brunette swallowed nervously as he kept staring down at the crest. No matter how much he despised that school for taking his cousin away from him, Avalorn did interest him quite a bit. It had even sent a letter to him, a muggle born! What’s more is that he was dying to learn new spells and explore his magical powers more. Also he could see Milo after all this time and even meet people like him. Taran slightly grinned at the reasons to go to Avalorn and breathed out nervously. He bit his lip slightly as he carefully opened the envelope and pulled out the letter.
Dear Mr. Lancaster,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Avalorn’s School of Magic. He stopped there and ignored the rest of the letter with a grimace. There was no point in learning the dates since he was not allowed to go. Unfortunately his parents had found the letter first and had forbidden Taran to attend that school. Even without opening the envelope, his parents had known what the letter was. This was because of his mother seeing the letter that her sister had received years ago. It still scared her half to death, Taran though as he chuckled when he remembered her face at the sight of his letter. That face was priceless and it served his mother right… Both her and his father had tried to suppress Taran’s magic ever since he was five years old.
They didn’t want a freak in the family like Milo’s mother. She absolutely terrified them. It didn’t help when she married into the Thatch family that was full of wizards and witches that didn’t take likely to pure muggles. Only Milo was the likable one from that family until his parents found Milo demonstrating magic to Taran. He sighed softly as he folded up the letter and placed it back in the envelope. Taran then slowly leaned up and stuffed the letter into the hole in the tree above his head.
There was no way he was going to let his parents find the letter and rip it up. They were probably still searching for him since he had snatched the letter from them and ran off with it to his secret place. He looked up at the branches above him and a crooked smile formed on his face when he saw a squirrel looking down at him with curious eyes. “You want to play again?” Taran laughed as he slowly stood up on the branch and leaned his head up to the squirrel to pet its head. The squirrel rubbed its head up against his hand and made a clicking sound.
He heaved a little sigh and nodded. “Just don’t make a lot of racket, okay?” The squirrel quickly moved its head up and down like a nod and jumped to a different branch. Taran chuckled softly at the squirrel’s antics and muttered a spell that lifted an acorn of the ground that begun to swirl around the tree branches near the squirrel. The animal began its little chase game with the acorn as Taran leaned against the tree in amusement.
He cringed slightly once he heard familiar voices coming near him and groaned. He forgot that the family reunion was today also. No wonder his parents were more verbal about him suppressing his magic even though the Lancaster family knew of the magic. “Oh well…I still have to deal with them no matter what.” He looked up at the playful squirrel and waved goodbye. “I might see you again tomorrow. Wish me luck with these people” he said as he hopped down out of the tree onto the ground with ease. He walked off toward the sound of the voices with the Avalorn letter still fresh on his mind.

Boarding the Ship
There was no such thing as 10.5 docks! He couldn't believe that it wasn't real. Was it a typo in the letter about the location for the ship? He looked around in irritation as he pushed his cart along a pathway. He groaned heavily when he noticed that there weren't really any people walking around out here. Perhaps he had gone too far? He gritted his teeth in anger at being left on his own for this trip. He had thought that the Thatch family would've sent someone with him to escort him to the ship… But they had told him that finding the ship would be an easy find for him. He shook his head at this.
They really didn’t know much about him anyways, that family just wanted to mold him into one of them. But he still did owe them since they got him ready for Avalorn after he showed them the letter. Both his aunt and uncle were thrilled…well let’s say they were amused to have another shot at get what they wanted even though he came from the family of muggles that hated magic.
The Thatch family only took him in when his parents had tossed Taran to his uncle and aunt after the incident at the family reunion. He smirked slightly at the memory of his relatives faces when they saw what happened when he snapped. It wasn’t his fault that he caused a mini earthquake inside of the house where the family reunion was held. A few of his Lancaster cousins that knew about the magic situation had ridiculed him about his cousin Milo and called him a freak. Taran just lost control…they had no right at all to talk about someone they knew nothing about.
“Freaking brats…” He muttered under his breath and looked straight ahead above his cart for any sign of 10.5 docks. His eyes widened in surprise when he spotted a young girl standing near an abandoned ship. Then he scowled lightly when he saw the sign ’10.5 docks’. Well here it was! But the only ship he saw was an abandoned ship. It made no sense until he saw the girl disappear as she walked onto 10.5 docks.
Well that was strange. He quickly pushed his cart towards the docks and walked onto 10.5 docks. “W-Wow,” He murmured as he saw a completely different ship from what he saw before. He gasped softly when he heard that the ship was going to leave soon.
Oh how he loved magic. It was so….tricky and amusing, he thought as he rushed to board the ship.
