Why Hello There (shared fanfic with Eric)

Vanessa made her way outside after classes and headed down to the lake.  Most students avoided going there after hours although Vanessa enjoyed the quiet and she enjoyed being away from the student body.  Ever since her first year she had hated how there were so many people...it was almost overwhelming.  Besides she never liked it when people touched her...unless she ininated contact or if they were Dimitri.

Eric sat at the lake, under a tree, as he read a book. His classes were all done for the day and this was his time to relax a bit. He had his wand out, shining light on his book.

Though, at the same time, it was the passed the students' curfews, so Odette couldn't enjoy the night with him.

He was reading a new book that was giving a new more modern look at Defense against the dark arts. He always found it best to research everything new with the subject he was teaching, to see if it was true or not.

His head perked up when he heard the sound of footsteps. His wolf senses always seemed to be on, even when he wasn't in his animugus form...

He looked over and saw a figure heading towards the lake. He muttered a spell that made the light brighter, showing him who the figure was. He sighed when he saw who it was.

"Miss Timkowski... it's past curfew." He stated, standing up.

So much for having time alone...

She looked at him with an amused glance, "So you say, how is Odie doing anyway?" She asked teasingly but with a sharp bite to her words.  She wasn't quite sure what Odette saw in the guy anyway...he was too...too nice, and boring.  However she wasn't above noticing that he was attractive, she wondered how Odette would react if she played with Eric a little.  "Besides I couldn't sleep." She stated eventually, the words were true enough but she certainly wasn't going to tell him the reasons for it.

Eric resisted rolling his eyes at her. He was never much a fan of her when he was student here with her. 

"As far as I know, Miss Paranell is doing fine." He said, stating the truth.

He let out a sigh when she said she couldn't sleep. "If you're having trouble, we can go by the Hospital Wing and I'm sure they can give you something to help you sleep. If it's nightmares or something, they have something for that too." He said, walking over to her to escort her back inside.

She slipped back as he approached her, giving him a little smile as she did so, "Its no fun if we go back now." She said with a smirk.  Givng him her back she kept wallking around the Lake, "Besides I'm sure the Headmistress would love to see the photos I have of a certain professor with a certain student." She glanced over at him with a knowing look, "Who knew you were that fit?" She added with a little laugh.

Eric paused as she spoke. He shook his head. "You really believe she doesn't know already?" He asked, crossing his arms, with a raised eyebrow.

"Well I'm assuming she does." She shrugged as if not bothered by this information and turned away from him.

Eric shook his head. "Let's get you back inside. I'm not in the mood to deduct points or give detentions tonight, but I will if I have too." He stated, walking over to her.

"Do you want to see if we can get you something to help you sleep?" He asked, trying to be a good professor.

She rolled her eyes, "I think I liked you better when you were a student." She muttered and when he mentioned getting something to help her sleep she laughed bitterly.  "No...I'm fine." She said shortly.  Truth was nothing really worked...only thing that did was being next to Dimitri, even if he hurt her.

Eric smirked at her comment. "I don't know, I think I'm enjoying being a professor just as much as being a student." He said, with a slight laugh in his tone.

He looked at her for a moment, studying her. "You're sure?" He asked, wanting to make sure she would be all right.

She shook her head at him and then twirled her wand loosely in her hand, "I figured as much." She stated before frowning at his question, "Positive." She said eventually.

Eric looked at her slowly. He knew he couldn't really force her to take something. "Okay," He said, before coming up beside her. "Let's get you inside. All right? It's getting late and I'm sure someone is patrolling the floors. I may have been nice, but if you're caught out here past curfew, the person who catches you may not be as nice." He said, feeling he should give her a break.

She looked so tired with the moonlight shining on her.

She sighed, at this point she didn't really care that he was noticing how tired she looked, generally she used spells to cover it up anyway.  "Enjoying the view?" She asked with some sarcasm before walking off, "Besides I know when to get caught and when not to get caught." She threw over her shoulder as she walked.

Eric shook his head. "You got caught out here." He stated, following her back to the school to make sure she actually went back.

She smirked at him, "Exactly my point." She said mysteriously before continuing on, "So little Odie...has she told you what happened in class with Gaston yet?" She asked with a little smirk on her face as they walked.

Eric looked at Vanessa suspiciously. He had a feeling she was just trying to start something, but curiosity won out. "I haven't seen Miss Paranell all day." He said, keeping the formalities up.

"What happened in Gaston's class?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. He hated that him and his cousin had the same last names... it could get confusing at times.

She smirked, "Well he may have taken her outside the classroom for a bit to talk with her privately.  Rumor has it that he's going to marry her...what do you think?" She asked as she glanced over at him.

Eric smirked and shook his head. "Only if she wants to actually marry him. Though, that isn't any of your business, now is it?" He asked, raising an eyebrow at her again, but with his smirk still in place.

He knew Odette disliked his cousin...

She laughed a little bit under her breath, "You think her dad cares about what she wants?  And while it isn't my business I do know Gaston doesn't care either...judging by that hand shaped print on his face though I guess he wasn't talking much." She added and then shrugged.  "So I guess my question is, what are you going to do?" She asked

Eric's smirk grew when he heard about Odette slapping Gaston. He glanced at Vanessa, looking at her curiously.

"You actually sound like you care." He said, lightly. 

"...I plan on marrying her..." He said, quietly, not stating when or anything. He didn't know if Vanessa would tell his cousin or not.

"Ahhh so you are going to do something about it." She said rather sarcastically before meeting his eyes, "Look I may be Vulpes but I don't support Death-Eaters." She said flatly and sighed as she rubbed her forehead, "You love her?" She asked as she glanced at him with a blank expression.

He looked at her for a long moment. "I do... Very much so." He stated, softly. It was the truth, he loved her.

She rolled her eyes, then why the hell hadn't he asked her already? "So uh...do you have any problems with things like this?" She asked coyly as she slid up against him, her nightgown slipping off her shoulder as she smiled seductively at him.

Eric watched her with wide eyes as she put her body against him, with her nightgown slipping a little.

"Uh, yes, yes I do." He said, putting his hands on her upper arms and taking a step back from her, before letting go. "You need to get to bed..." He said, avoiding touching her as he ushered her into the castle.

Geez, why didn't you bring a coat or something? He thought, wishing he noticed earlier that she was only in her nightgown. 

Who does that? He questioned.

She laughed as she watched him usher her into the school, "Wow you scare easy." She commented as if talking about the weather.  She didn't bother pulling her sleeve up just yet as she watched him with amusement.  "I wonder what a teacher would think if they saw us." She added almost as an after thought a truly wicked look in her eyes.
